"Experiencing ikigai has long been associated with a broad range of physical and mental health benefits. However, within our fast-paced, every-changing, and work-centric society, we all too easily allow sources of meaning within our lives to pass us by. I use scientifically-grounded principles to help people identify sources of ikigai within a modern-day landscape, that both align with their current lifestyle and position them for success in future ventures.
DR. DEAN FIDO // IKIGAI COACH
REGION: NOTTINGHAM, UNITED KINGDOM
Much of my life has been dedicated towards conducting research that helps us to
better understand the psychology behind our experiences of ikigai. Through my academic
work, I have had the fortune of not only pioneering the English Translation of the Ikigai-9 (a
brief measure of ones’ purpose in life), but I have also contributed to translations and
validations of this scale within Spanish, Colombian, Indian, and Maltese contexts.
I have cherished my discussions of purpose and meaning with people across the globe, and
have helped them to understand what it means to experience ikigai in alignment with
Eastern philosophy. Through this cross-cultural lens, I have developed a strong
understanding of how people create sources of ikigai in their life – regardless of where they
call home. But more and more, I have heard stories about the barriers that people face that
hinder them from seeing and appreciating the sources of ikigai that already exist within their
life. I am a firm believer that to flourish, we must understand what holds us back, be it
ourselves, others, or circumstance.
As an Ikigai Tribe Coach and speaker, I create space for people to identify existing sources
of meaning within their lives and to implement actionable strategies that reinvigorate their
purpose. Most importantly, I help align this purpose with ones’ values and the roles that they
play within society, so as to allow them to live in an authentic and purposeful manner.
