Discovering values you aspire to embody
Nick: I'm pretty familiar with one of the seven weapons, the 80/20 principle. I know a lot of businessman refer to that. And it's not just problems that's often applied to: wealth, profits, or positive results come from 20% of the work you do.
So it seems to be verified and something valued. I probably need to look at it more for my own business and our own life, the 80/20 principle. Now, something also really effective, and it could be another weapon, is the Values in Action survey that we both use in our business and we use for personal growth and development.
I found this really helpful that you recommend the reader to take the Values in Action survey. And then for each virtue you go through, you associate certain values to that virtue in each chapter. Now I'm really familiar with the Values in Action survey, what I like about it, I guess from the ikigai angle is it's backed up by positive psychology.
And I love this idea that it's Values in Action, suggesting you're actioning these values, you're expressing them. And they can also be these values you try to live up to. So that's why I think it's a really effective tool, because we often just kind of select these values from a larger list. But they're tool's quite, I think it's accurate and effective.
And the premise is interesting, that there are 24 different core values strengths. And to some degree, we have all of them. And so it suggests that we can look at the ones maybe we'd like to cultivate, or that we value, but we know we don't always express and think, 'how can I be more respectful?' Or 'how can I live with more integrity?'
I think it's a really effective tool, and the one I recommend. And there are many. The great thing about this one is it's free as well. So if you're interested, for those listeners who are interested, they can just Google VIA survey.
